NOTAH KELLY III WINS
WORLD SERIES XXII

Notah Kelly III has become the 4th player to achieve the coveted home and away double with his World Series victory.   During the tournament, Kelly and his playing partner, Edwardo Romero, posted a tournament 4BBB record score of 46 points.

Runner-up Kenny Crenshaw played consistently good golf all week, emphasised by his win and second placing in the individual events.

Grantief Goosen filled 3rd place.  His return to form seemingly helped by the temporary passing of his putting yips - to those watching him putt.

WORLD SERIES

The week of golf will be known as the "Love the President Tour" in recognition of the instant mass appeal of our new leader, Davidson Love III.  Only weeks after assuming control of the ESG&EC, he has received acceptances from XIX (19) members to play on the Central Coast, a new tournament record.

Approval rating figures supplied by Big Jack Daley, a close advisor to the president, show Love's popularity has reached unprecedented levels, peaking at CXV (115)% in some areas of south-western Sydney.  Mr Daley said, "As much as these figures may surprise some, they have been independently audited by Edwardo Romero, a renown numbers man.  I think some of the club's powerbrokers backed the right trojan horse in the presidential race."

STRONG FIELD LIKELY

The Earlwood Comite d'Organisation Des Jeux De Printemps Competition (The Committee) has issued over 30 invitations to eligible players for the 21st Championship.  The defending champion, Notah Kelly III, headlines the select international field of Kipper Parnevik, Rich Kent, JP Hayes, Seve Hemosteros, Jose-Mumma Olazabal, Garry Mize, Bluey Dunk, Vijay Field, Davidson Love III, Per-Ulrik Fatcatsson, Dick Faldo, Edwardo Romero, Karrie White, Peard Fulke, Cavey Pavin, Java Haas, Soldier Montgomerie, Hunter Meehan, Kenny Crenshaw, Ford Funk, Grantief Goosen, Boo Boo Weekley, Trent Strange, Danny White Shark, Tack Nicklaus, Hale Irving, Shigeki Moroneyama, Big Jack Daley, Bubba Booth, Costantino Blocker and Tubby Waldorf.

The Committee has received notices from Messrs Hayes, Hemosteros, Mize, Faldo, Pavin and Booth advising of their unavailablity.

FORMAT, PLAYING DATES & TIMES

The tournament is a handicap match play event.  A stableford qualifying round will be held on Sunday, October 18, with the 16 top scorers progressing to November's match play rounds (November 8, 15 and 22).  All Sundays, including the stableford round, have a 12.30pm start.  Competitors are requested to be on the balcony each Sunday by 12 noon.

The semi-finals are set down for Friday afternoon, November 20, unless both players agree to a change.  With that one exception, competitors are not permitted to vary The Committee's nominated times and dates of The Championship's playing schedule.

The entry fee is $60 which includes your green fees on qualifying day.  With 25 players, prizemoney will be the same as last year - winner $400, runner-up $200 and semi-finalists $50.

THE VENUE & PUBLIC TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS

The Royal and Ancient Marrickville Old Course, featuring some of the toughest and most picturesque holes on the Cooks Peninsula, will again host The Championship.  With the anticipated large crowds, players should access the course via Magnolia Drive (formerly Wharf Road).  For spectators, a park and ride bus service leaves Earlwood every 20 minutes from outside the Coles supermarket car park.

Sydney Ferries also operate a single jet cat service to the R&A from Circular Quay.  The Lady Fatcat departs Wharf 3 at 11.00am and arrives at the Man O' Golf steps, adjacent to the first tee, at 11.40am.  At low tide, the service terminates at what locals refer to as the Tempe Taj Mahal, the Newtown Jets Sports Club, from where passengers can enjoy a leisurely stroll to the course along the rejuvenated Cooks River foreshores.
