The semi-final (November 20) results Match 13 were Kenny Crenshaw (13) def. Notah Kelly III (24) 2 & 1 and Match 14 Boo Boo Weekley (16) def. Java Haas (13) 6 & 5.

Match 15 saw Kenny Crenshaw (13) snuff out the youthful challenger, Boo Boo Weekley (16), 3 & 1. In sweltering conditions, the experienced Crenshaw opened with a blitz attack, winning five of the first seven holes to effectively end the contest at the short break. Boo Boo's performance improved after the interval, whittling away at the lead, and he kept the match going to the 17th hole. Mr Crenshaw is the first recipient of the Stephen Angry Anderson Match Play Championship trophy, presented in memory of someone who had two key attributes we all admired - he was a good bloke and an average golfer.

2008.....

The result of Match 15, The Championship Match, was Notah Kelly III (28) def. Peard Fulke (14) 2 & 1.  In a see-sawing match, Notah won the opening two holes before losing five and squaring one to be 3 down at the 8th.  He then won four of the next five holes to have the match all square at the 13th.  Peard won the 14th but lost the next three to lose the match at the 17th.

2007.....

Both finalists were a little off their game in Match 15, Vijay into the Cooks with his drive on the first and conceding the Par 3 second after having a one putt quadruple bogey.  Edwardo (aka The Prince) gladly accepted these gifts and then extended his lead to be 6 up after nine holes.  Vijay chipped in on ten and won one of the next two to give himself an outside chance but The Prince made the most of his handicap advantage on 13 by putting his tee shot on the green and going 5 up with 5 to play.  Vijay conceded the 14th hole to hand The Prince the first of what will undoubtedly be his only major win.

The semi-final results were Match 13 (November 19) - Bluey Dunk (12) def. Karrie White (13) 1 up, Match 14 (November 18) - Tack Nicklaus (22) def. Dick Faldo (10) 3 & 1.

As Juan Antonio might have said of the Dunk-Nicklaus decider, "The best final of them all."  Well, maybe a slight exaggeration, but an enthralling contest nonetheless.  Match 15 was a seesawing affair, Bluey won the first, halved the next 4, then lost the 6th and 7th to go 1 down.  He won the 8th, halved the 9th, and lost the 10th to again go 1 down.  He won the 11th, halved the 12th and lost the 13th to be yet again at 1 down - a delicate position with 5 to play.  Tack, with shots left on holes 16 and 18, lost 14 and 15, to go 1 down.  Bluey put himself in the Champions seat by winning the 16th, going 2 up with two to play.  With the pressure mounting, both players skillfully avoided the water hazard on 17 by hitting their tee shots to the 9th fairway and then chipping back over the tree line.  Bluey hit the green with his third shot but Tack's reply went through the green into the rough.  Tack, needing to win the hole to keep the match alive, duffed his chip shot and eventually conceded the hole to give Bluey his first major victory.

2004.....

After extensive consultation with senior players, and the stamp of approval from officials at the R&A, the decision was made to alter the format of the Match Play Championship.  Qualifying day is now an all-in stableford event with the top 16 scorers progressing to the match play rounds.

For those that remember an epic clash, think of the 1981 NSWRL Grand Final when the Jets were stiffed on the bell.  Match 15 was yet another high-quality game from this years Championship, Davidson Love III won the 18th hole to finish 1 up over the 50-something former Jets star, Kenny Crenshaw.  For many in the large gallery, this was the highest standard final of them all.  Not only the closeness of the match - no more than one hole's difference at any stage - but the almost complete lack of mishits until nerves set in at the 16th hole.  Congratulations to Davidson, now a 4-time Champion (previously 1989, 1991 and 1994) but the victory comes with a sting in the tail - he loses 6 shots for next years event!  Commiserations to Kenny who put up a gallant fight but was probably let down over the concluding holes by his womanly putting.  He loses 3 shots.

The Championship Match, played on Sunday November 23rd, proved yet again that the old adage about weight stopping a train was correct.  In Match 15 Shigeki Moroneyama triumphed 5 and 3 over Garry Mize in a typical finals match.  Shigeki was never headed, leading by one hole at the turn and winning four of the next six holes to finish the contest at the 15th.

2002.....

The Championship commenced with 22 starters on Sunday October 13th.

The Championship Match, played on Sunday October 27, turned out to be a slight anti-climax for spectators.  Vijay Field, the 1997 Champion, was 3 up after 8 holes and never looked back, eventually putting away an out of sorts Java Haas 4 and 2 in Match 15.

2001.....

The Championship, commenced on Sunday October 7th, with 27 starters (a then record field) lining up for qualifying day.  To accommodate all starters, some matches included 4 players.

Semi-finals (Friday October 15) results were Match 13 - Soldier Montgomerie (21) def. Anderson Forsbrand (13) 7 and 6 and Match 14 - Per-Ulrik Fatcatsson (8) def. Tiger Wood (12) at the 20th.

Match 15, held on Sunday October 17, was the most lopsided final of the millennium.  Soldier Montgomerie destroyed Fatcatsson 8 and 7.  Per-Ulrik offered no excuses and put half his prizemoney on the bar as some consolation for the spectators.

1998.....

19 players gathered for battle on Sunday October 4th.  All starters were accommodated by the new tournament format.

Notah Kelly III (27) and Davidson Love III (9), Match 3 - Bluey Dunk (12) def. Tiger Wood (10) 2 and 1, Match 4 - Shigeki Moroneyama (20) def. Jose-Mumma Olazabal (4) and JP Hayes (Scr), Match 5 - Hunter Meehan (10) def. Danny White Shark (14) 5 and 3, Match 6 - Hal Whitton (6) def. Vijay Field (12) 7 and 5, Match 7 - Costantino Blocker (26) def. Tubby Waldorf (27) 4 and 3 and Match 8 - Soldier Montgomerie (17) def. Java Haas (12) and Anderson Forsbrand (11).

Round of 8 (Sunday October 11) results were Match 9 - Cavey Pavin (14) def. Per-Ulrik Fatcatsson (8) 2 and 1, Match 10 - Bluey Dunk (12) def. Shigeki Moroneyama (20) 3 and 1, Match 11 - Hal Whitton (6) def. Hunter Meehan (10) 3 and 1 and Match 12 - Costantino Blocker (26) def. Soldier Montgomerie (17) 2 and 1.

Semi-finals (Saturday October 17) results were Match 13 - Bluey Dunk (12) def. Cavey Pavin (14) 1 up and Match 14 - Costantino Blocker (26) def. Hal Whitton (6) 1 up.

The Championship Match, held on Sunday October 18, gave Costantino Blocker his first major, defeating Bluey Dunk.  All square after 15 holes, Bluey lost the 16th hole through a disqualification.  In a gesture of good sportsmanship, Costantino Blocker replayed the hole and won it, squared the 17th, and won the 18th with a 6 (net 5) to Bluey's 7 for a 2 up win in Match 15.

1997.....

With 18 starters, the tournament commenced on Friday October 3rd with two play-off games - Hunter Meehan (8) and Costantino Blocker (26) defeated over Davidson Love III (9) and Tack Nicklaus (19) 6 and 5 respectively.

Shigeki Moroneyama (20) 4 and 3, Match 3 - Cavey Pavin (14) def. JP Hayes (Scr) 1 up, Match 4 - Costantino Blocker (26) def. Soldier Montgomerie (18) 3 and 1, Match 5 - Tiger Wood (10) def. Seve Hemosteros (2) 2 and 1, Match 6 - Vijay Field (14) def. Hunter Meehan (8) 4 and 3, Match 7 - Java Haas (13) def. Per-Ulrik Fatcatsson (8) 2 and 1 and Match 8 - Hal Whitton (6) def. The Championship Match, played on Sunday October 19, saw Vijay Field beat Dick Faldo 4 and 3.  At the end of nine very competitive holes, Dick was 1 up with no inkling of the devastation that lay ahead.  Vijay Field stepped up a gear playing the next 6 holes in 4 over, and Match 15 was over.
