PLAYER PROFILES A-K

Robert Allanby

Nickname: Mr Carlton

Weight: 178
Birthdate: July 12, 1971
Residence: Kogarah
Family: Wife, Jan
Special interests: beer (brewing and drinking), golf, euchre
Joined tour: 2001

Comment: Drew the hot grouping of Sergio Grasscia, Kipper Parnevik and Costantino Blocker on debut at the 2000 Spring Match Play Championship.  So traumatised by the high standard of play he has not been able to swing a club since.  Seeking guidance from Baker-Finch's shrink about a comeback.

Hadley Baddeley

Nickname: Hadley
Exempt status: none current
Height: 6-1
Weight: 182
Birthdate: March 17, 1981
Residence: North Sydney
Family: Single
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, soccer, women, international currencies
Joined tour: 2004

Comment: Qualified for the ESG&EC tour with a solid performance at the 2004 Presidents Cup.  Previously played on the South African and European secondary tours with limited success.

Costantino Blocker

Nickname: Blocker
Exempt status: none current
Height: 6-1
Weight: 182
Birthdate: March 17, 1981
Residence: Marrickville
Family: Single
Special interests: hospitals, beer, golf, euchre
Joined tour: 1989

One of nine current members who teed off in our first World Series of Golf and the Spring Match Play Championship events in 1989.   Pictured above (left foreground) drinking at The Entrance Hotel with club maestro, Per-Ulrik Fatcatsson.  In the background are well-known players Davidson Love (rear left) and Big Jack Daley.

Blocker has played in over 25 majors and won the 1998 Match Play Championship.  Unfortunately accidents, ill health and other interests have limited his playing schedule in the recent years.

Kenny Crenshaw

Nickname: Squeaker
Exempt status: through to 2006 (member US Presidents Cup team)
Height: 5-9
Weight: 157
Birthdate: January 11, 1952
Residence: Padstow Heights
Family: Wife, Christine
Education: University of Texas
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, music of Australian band "Dragon"
Joined tour: 1999

Comment: Since joining the tour, Kenny has not missed an event.  The brother-in-law of popular tour player, Dick Faldo, Crenshaw does his best work at the World Series of Golf where he has been placed 3 times in 6 starts.  On tour, he is responsible for organising the euchre tournaments.

Big Jack Daley

Nicknames: The African, Foster Cosgrove, Big
Exempt status: none current
Height: 5-11
Weight: 220
Birthdate: April 28, 1966
Residence: Sandy Point
Family: Girlfriend, Virginia
Education: School of Hard Knocks
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, hydration theories, real estate
Joined tour: 1989

Comment: Another of the current members who teed off in both 1989 majors, Jack last struck form in the mid-90s when he won the 1995 World Series.  Although no longer a full-time member of the tour, he still manages to get in at least a day or two of socialising when the tour moves up to the Central Coast.  Jack is more famous these days for his radical hydration theory, mega real estate deals and ginger puss.

Bluey Dunk

Nickname: Bluey
Exempt status: through to 2010 (Match Play winner)
Height: 6-3
Weight: 214
Birthdate: July 18, 1957
Residence: Turrella
Family: wife, Rachel
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, woodwork
Joined tour: 1998

Comment: Along with a host of young talent, he joined the tour in 1998 and made an immediate impact when he played in the final of the Spring Match Play.  Followed up that significant achievement with 5 years in the wilderness before winning the 2005 Spring Match Play Championship.

Dick Faldo

Nickname: Dickie
Exempt status: through to 2006 (member International Presidents Cup team)
Height: 6-3
Weight: 214
Birthdate: July 18, 1957
Residence: Engadine
Family: wife, Deb
Education: Loftus Technical College
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, preserved meats
Joined tour: 1990

Comment: Dick is the most popular player on tour and is revered by crowds wherever he travels.  Universally known as The Peoples Prince, he brings an element of danger to the course with his quick action swing and socially intemperate drinking.

The winner of the 2000 Spring Match Play Championship, he is the current ESG&EC handicapper and also holds the potentially lucrative patent for the Dickworth-Lewis handicapping system.

Per-Ulrik Fatcatsson

Nickname: Fatcat
Exempt status: through to 2006 (member International Presidents Cup team)
Height: 5-8
Weight: 155
Birthdate: December 6, 1966
Residence: Bardwell Park
Family: wife, Princess Jude
Education: Arizona State University (1990)
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, stamps
Joined tour: 1989

Comment: Another of the current members who teed off in the inaugural majors, he is the current ESG&EC President.

Vijay Field

Nickname: WG
Exempt status: through to 2007 (Match Play winner)
Height: 6-2
Weight: 208
Birthdate: February 22, 1963
Residence: Enfield
Family: Wife, Patti-Lyn
Education: Nandi High, Fiji
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, swimming, leisure time
Joined tour: 1991

Comment: VJ is a dual Spring Match Play Champion - 1997 and 2002.

Anderson Forsbrand

Nickname: Angry
Exempt status: none current
Height: 6-1
Weight: 189
Birthdate: April 1, 1961
Residence: Padstow
Family: Wife, Sally
Education: Filipstad University, Sweden
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, parks management
Joined tour: 1998

Comment: Anderson is another of the young guns from 1998.  Played in three consecutive Spring Match Plays before an ill-advised vasectomy operation in 2001 went horribly wrong and curtailed his enjoyment of all ball sports.

Peard Fulke

Nickname: Peardie
Exempt status: through to 2006 (member International Presidents Cup team)
Height: 5-8
Weight: 160
Birthdate: February 21, 1971
Residence: Beacon Hill
Family: Wife, Pam
Education: Nykoping High, Sweden
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, refereeing, writing letters to the editor
Joined tour: 2003

Comment: Although eligible to play seniors golf, Fulke enjoys the camaraderie and tougher competition of the ESG&EC tour.  The veteran's best recent effort was to win the long drive competition at the 2003 Spring Match Play.  He drove all the way from Beacon Hill.

Ford Funk

Nickname: The Funkster
Exempt status: through to 2006 (Match Play winner)
Height: 5-8
Weight: 165
Birthdate: June 14, 1956
Residence: Hunters Hill
Family: Wife, Atilla
Education: University of Maryland
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, workers compensation acts
Joined tour: 1999

Comment: A former neighbour and great fan of Don Lane, the popular entertainer and multiple Logie winner, Funk organised - almost posthumously as it turned out - the successful "Lay the Cable" July 2004 tour to Melbourne.  The tour visited many of Don's favourite places in the southern capital including the GTV9 studios, a discreet Richmond factory that custom built Don's famous glass top tables, and his regular restaurant, The Exploding Vindaloo Firecracker.

The gregarious Funk was the winner of the 2001 Spring Match Play Championship.  Despite his good match play form, his manager, Attila, has so far resisted all attempts by tournament organisers keen to have him play the full week at the World Series.

Grantief Goosen

Nickname: Gruntley
Exempt status: through to 2006 (member International Presidents Cup team)
Height: 6-0
Weight: 175
Birthdate: February 3, 1969
Residence: Engadine
Family: Girlfriend, Kim
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, stacking bricks
Joined tour: 2002

Comment: One of many players on tour from The Shire, and as such, required to be on standby to chauffeur Dick Faldo to and from events.  Reaching the semi-finals of the 2002 Spring Match Play, where the eventual winner dusted him up, has been his career highlight.

Sergio Grasscia

Nickname: Grassy
Exempt status: 2004 : none current
Height: 5-10
Weight: 160
Birthdate: January 9, 1980
Residence: Drummoyne
Family: Wife, Leanne
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, the riverina, international currencies
Joined tour: 2001

Comment: The Riverina boy never lets the proverbial grow under his feet.  After reaching the final of the 2001 Spring Match Play, he headed overseas seeking fame and fortune.  Returned to Sydney in 2004 sans fame and fortune.

Java Haas

Nickname: Java
Exempt status: through to 2010 (World Series winner)
Height: 5-10
Weight: 180
Birthdate: December 2, 1953
Residence: Croydon
Family: Wife, Pita-Ann
Education: Wake Forest University
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, greyhounds, trotters, family law
Joined tour: 1989

Comment: Another of the current members who teed off in both inaugural majors, he is the most capped played on the tour having played 34 majors.  Java was the club's second President.

His forte is the World Series where he is a three-time champion, 1990, 1998 and 2005.  He also successfully takes on the high-pressure and thankless role of the tournament's greyhound and trotting expert and has recently been appointed chief procurement and legal officer for the club's Smoke D'Captain greyhound racing syndicate.

JP Hayes

Nickname: JPY
Exempt status: through to 2006 (member US Presidents Cup team)
Height: 6-0
Weight: 185
Birthdate: August 2, 1965
Residence: Oatley
Family: Wife, Narelle
Education: University of Texas-El Paso
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, home care
Joined tour: 1991

Comment: JPY won the 1997 World Series.

Seve Hemosteros

Nickname: Hemo
Exempt status: through to 2008 (World Series winner)
Height: 6-2
Weight: 178
Birthdate: April 9, 1957
Residence: Lane Cove
Family: Wife, Kym
Education: University of Barcelona
Special interests: insurance/superannuation, beer, golf, euchre
Joined tour: 1989

Comment: Seve teed off in both 1989 majors and was the first ESG&EC President.  In the heady days of the late 80's, his business acumen got the tour started.  He stood down in the early 90's to concentrate on a burgeoning insurance career.  Also sits on the board of Sydney's most prominent rugby league club.

Hemosteros is now testing previously unknown waters on the Dickworth-Lewis tables with his 2005 handicap set at plus 5 after three victories from twelve World Series starts.  Enjoys relative anonymity and a far better handicap at the Spring Match Play where he has only progressed to the second round three times.

Hale Irving

Nickname: Grog Monster
Exempt status: through to 2006 (member US Presidents Cup team)
Height: 6-1
Weight: 175
Birthdate: June 3, 1945
Residence: Arncliffe
Family: Wife, Ravella
Education: University of Colorado
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, computers
Joined tour: 2001

Comment: Irving joined the tour in 2001 and made an immediate impact on the social circuit where he earned the respect of his peers and the nickname Grog Monster.

Notah Kelly III

Nickname: The Legend
Exempt status: through to 2006 (member US Presidents Cup team)
Height: 5-11
Weight: 195
Birthdate: September 14, 1972
Residence: Camperdown
Family: Girlfriend, Camille
Education: Stanford University
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, overseas travel, occasional business matters
Joined tour: 1994

Comment: The tour prankster and high marker, Kelly often plays in his trademark Rastafarian beanie and wig.  His golf never suffers.

Rich Kent

Nickname: Kentie
Exempt status: through to 2006 (member US Presidents Cup team)
Height: 5-8
Weight: 165
Birthdate: August 24, 1970
Residence: Beverly Hills
Family: Wife, Bev
Education: New Mexico State University
Special interests: beer, golf, euchre, horses
Joined tour: 2003

Comment: Joined the tour in 2003 the tour after getting his ticket from The Coast qualifying school.  Found the going tough at the Spring Match Play but an improved performance at the 2004 World Series was severely dented by missing Friday's championship round.
